Boeuf River is no longer flowing at an extreme low level near Girard, rated much below normal Thursday. No extreme low flows are registering in the state as of this update.

Kinder has issued a system-wide BWA following repairs to water lines Tuesday. Customers will be advised when potable water tests come back clear of any contamination that may have entered the lines during the work.

Drought Map from USGS 7-day average streamflows compared to historic averages
The appearance of the drought map has changed significantly overnight, down to two area of moderate drought and less than half of Louisiana surface area rated below normal. Severe drought has lifted off Calcasieu River channel overnight, now rated moderate drought. Tangipahoa Parish is no longer rated at all, a first for this area which has been in extreme or severe drought for months.

A shrinking portion of watershed region 1 is still rated below normal Thursday, including south Caddo Parish, east deSoto and west central Natchitoches Parishes. Region 2 Grant and Winn are below normal, Region 3 is down to Morehouse, Richland and Franklin rated below normal. A small portion of Morehouse north central is rated moderate drought. Region 4 is rated below normal in all but the Calcasieu River channel rated moderate drought. Region 5 is still rated below normal in all but Evangeline and Acadia Parishes. Region 6,7 and 8 are clear of the map in all but Region's 7 Pearl River channel area of east Washington and east St Tammany.

Note WaterToday reports day-to-day changes recorded by USGS streamflow monitors on rivers and tributaries located in Louisiana, along with monitors upstream in the Mississippi River basin: Ohio, Georgia and southwest New York state. USGS creates a drought map from 7-day average streamflow readings, by comparing the average with the historic weekly normal flow value for each location. The drought ratings are below normal, moderate hydrologic drought, severe drought and extreme drought.

HABs Report from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) satellite monitoring program
NCCOS image captured Jan 10 is mostly clear, offering an unobscured view of souteast LA water bodies taken at a low wind speed, 2.7 mph. No HABs are detected in this image in Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, or any of the other water bodies we normally cover until Lake Lery. Lake Lery is seen to have a band of HAB in the center of the lake from north shore to south shore high concentration 500 thousand cells per 100 ml.
