Streamflow Situation from USGS real time streamflow monitoring stations around the eight watersheds of the state
Much below normal flows return to west Louisiana Monday with extreme low flows registering on the Sabine River in watershed Region 4 over the weekend and persisting Monday. Pearl River flooding subsided around 730 pm last night. As of Monday, there is no more active flooding recorded on USGS streamflow gauges in LA.

Drought Map from USGS 7-day average streamflows compared to historic averages
The drought map appears much the same Monday as over the weekend, with the highest drought rating being moderate drought along the Calcasieu River channel in Region 4. Below normal ratings continue to apply to relatively small portions of Regions 1 and 2 with Region 3 central Morehouse Parish cleared from drought over the weekend. Most of Region 5 remains rated below normal Monday, with the exception of Acadia and Evangeline, not rated. Regions 3, 6, 7 and 8 are completey clear of any drought rating Monday.

See the Flood button to the right of the map for more information on streamflows. Red-brown tags on the map refer to extreme low flows.

Note WaterToday reports day-to-day changes recorded by USGS streamflow monitors on rivers and tributaries located in Louisiana, along with monitors upstream in the Mississippi River basin: Ohio, Georgia and southwest New York state. USGS creates a drought map from 7-day average streamflow readings, by comparing the average with the historic weekly normal flow value for each location. The drought ratings are below normal, moderate hydrologic drought, severe drought and extreme drought.

HABs Report from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) satellite monitoring program
NCCOS image captured Jan 14 is mostly clear, taken at a wind speed 2.4 mph. No HABs activity detected in Irish Bayou, Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, Lake Verret, Lake Palourde, Catouache or Salvador. Lake Lery and Black Bay inland water bodies appear with lakewide HABs at high concentration 500 thousand cells per 100 ml.
