Below normal and much below normal streamflows are registering in more locations throughout Louisiana midweek while five monitoring locations continue with flood values.

Bayou Dorcheat stopped overflowing this morning around 11 am near Springhill, ending flooding that has gone on for weeks. Bayou Bodcau is down overnight, currently less than eight feet above flood stage near Shreveport and declining.

Drought Map from USGS 7-day average streamflows compared to historic averages
Tangipahoa Parish is back on the drought map as of Tuesday, Feb 20 at below normal rating. The is the first area of Louisiana to be rated on the drought map since prior to Jan 28.

HAB Update from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science
The latest sat photo from NCCOS was taken Feb 20 at wind speed 3.3 mph. This image is a mostly clear view of the southeast Louisiana water bodies.

HABs show up in Lac des Allemands and Bayou Fortier in this image, open water HABs at moderate concentration 100 thousand cells per 100 ml. Inland water bodies of Black Bay still show the same widespread high concentration HABs 800 to 900 thousand cells per 100 ml.

Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, Lake Cataouache, Lake Salvador, Lake Lery appear HAB-free. Lake Verret and Lake Palourde are cloud obscured.

Note WaterToday reports day-to-day changes recorded by USGS streamflow monitors on rivers and tributaries located in Louisiana, along with monitors upstream in the Mississippi River basin: Ohio, Georgia and southwest New York state. USGS creates a drought map from 7-day average streamflow readings, by comparing the average with the historic weekly normal flow value for each location. The drought ratings are below normal, moderate hydrologic drought, severe drought and extreme drought.
