Flood Update from USGS real-time streamflow monitoring stations throughout Louisiana
Pearl River overflow stopped around 4am this morning at Pearl River, ending all flooding in Region 7. As of this update, Pearl River is within three inches of minor flood stage and continues to recede in volume and depth.

In Region 1, Bayou Bodcau has receded four to five inches over the last twenty four hours, currently running five feet ten inches over flood stage near Shreveport and declining.

Region 4 Sabine River held the line overnight, still sitting four inches over flood stage by the noon hour on Tuesday. USGS staff confirm this monitoring station is seeing Sabine River in flood stage.

Check black tags on the map for flood levels, provisional data courtesy of the USGS streamflow sensors placed into LA rivers, bogues and bayous.

Drought Map from USGS 7-day average streamflows compared to historic averages
Region 3 is rated below normal on the drought map Tuesday, with the exception of East Carroll, Madison and Tensas Parishes, the very same surface area laying between the Tensas and Mississippi Rivers tagged with extreme drought weeks on end through summer and fall.

Region 7 Tangipahoa watershed remains at the highest drought rating in the state, severe, with adjacent area east and west rated below normal. A narrow band along the Pearl River channel/east state line through Washington and St Tammany Parishes is not rated on the drought map as of yet. The west side of watershed Region 7 remains in moderate drought.

Region 1 Saline Bayou channel has come off the drought map Tuesday, while Caddo Parish remains stuck at moderate drought mode. South to Region 4, the Sabine River channel is still rated below normal, Sabine River itself confirmed still four inches over flood stage near Ruliff, TX. An area of the Upper Calcasieu River is rated below normal, taking up most of Vernon and the northeast corner of Beauregard Parish.

HAB Update from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science
The latest sat photo from NCCOS was taken Feb 26 at wind speed 8.1 mph. This image is completely clear view of all of southeast Louisiana water bodies.

Lake Pontchartain, Lake Maurepas, Lake Verret, Lake Palourde, Lac des Allemands and Bayou Fortier, Lake Cataouache, Lake Salvador, Lake Lery,, Rigoletts and the Pen all appear clear of HAB activity.

Inland water bodies of Black Bay show widespread HABs 700 thousand cells per 100 ml.

Note WaterToday reports day-to-day changes recorded by USGS streamflow monitors on rivers and tributaries located in Louisiana, along with monitors upstream in the Mississippi River basin: Ohio, Georgia and southwest New York state. USGS creates a drought map from 7-day average streamflow readings, by comparing the average with the historic weekly normal flow value for each location. The drought ratings are below normal, moderate hydrologic drought, severe drought and extreme drought.

USGS Provisional Data Statement
Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
Provisional data may be inaccurate due to instrument malfunctions or physical changes at the measurement site. Subsequent review based on field inspections and measurements may result in significant revisions to the data.
Data users are cautioned to consider carefully the provisional nature of the information before using it for decisions that concern personal or public safety or the conduct of business that involves substantial monetary or operational consequences. Information concerning the accuracy and appropriate uses of these data or concerning other hydrologic data may be obtained from the USGS.
