National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook issued 439 am CDT March 18

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north central Louisiana, northwest Louisiana

FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 9 AM CDT TUESDAY...This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for south central Arkansas, southwest Arkansas, north central Louisiana, northwest Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma and northeast Texas.

DAY ONE...Today and tonight, colder and drier air will continue to spill south today into Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas, Northeast Texas, and North Louisiana, in wake a cold front that will exit the region to the south. With the sky clearing later today, and high pressure building into the region this evening, good radiational cooling will result in a widespread freeze across much of the area late tonight. Precautions should be made today to protect tender vegetation and outdoor pipes from these cold temperatures.

Streamflow Situation provisional data from USGS current streamflow monitors
Much above normal to high streamflows continue Monday in northwest and north central Louisiana. Regions 4 and 5 are returning to normal flow values with four stations below seasonal normal, one much below normal. East Louisiana watersheds Region 6, 7 and 8 recording much above normal to high values Monday.

Four active flood events continue in Louisiana into the new work week. Bayou Dorcheat is down a foot overnight, running five feet above flood stage near Springhill. Bayou Bodcau is up again overnight, two feet, three inches over flood stage near Shreveport.

Pearl River maintains a level flow at three feet over near Bogalusa in Region 7. Downstream at Pearl River, the flooding continues at Pearl River, two and a half feet over flood stage.

Little Corney Bayou near Lillie is down from the 99th percentile flows we saw over the weekend, today running 97th percentile. There are no extreme low flows registering in the network today.

Check black tags for flood details, blue tag for 99th percentile high flow updated throughout the day.

Flooding in the USA provisional data from USGS streamflow monitors

Thirty-one sites mark flooding across the network of the USGS streamflow monitors in continental USA as of this update Monday morning, down from forty-three this time Sunday.

WT tracks flooding and drinking water quality in four states. A single station recording coastal flooding in NY over the weekend, Reynolds Channel at Point Lookout is this morning presumed to be a technical error, as reported above, more to follow.

Tiffin River flooding subsided at Stryker in northwest Ohio around 9 pm last night, back in the channel less than 24 hours after flooding began. (Correction notice: Tiffin River flooding reported earlier as ending at 11 pm Sunday March 17.) Tiffin River is part of the Maumee watershed, the principal region of interest for nutrient runoff feeding the Lake Erie HAB. More to follow as we track precipitation and streamflows through the critical spring season on the tenth anniversary of the Toledo water crisis.

Four stations record flooding in Louisiana Monday morning, including Bayou Dorcheat near Springhill, Bayou Bodcau near Shreveport in the northwest and Pearl River flooding near Bogalusa and downstream municipality of Pearl River along the east state line.

Georgia is the flood leader again today, accounting for one third of active flooding in the USA Monday. The current flooding event in GA began on March 6 caused by heavy rain through north and central Georgia. Flint River has ceased flooding this morning since our initial report, ending the flooding in the Georgia contribution to the Gulf of Mexico. Ocmulgee, Altamaha, Satilla, Savannah, Ogeechee and, Ohoopee Rivers continue to send floodwater down to the Atlantic Ocean. Refer to black tags on the maps for updated flood flow levels, blue tags for 99th percentile high flows.

Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow against seasonal average
Severe drought holds on to the same territory in Region 4 as yesterday: southeast Vernon and northeast Beauregard, west Allen Parishes. Remaining area of Region 4 is sticking to a moderate drought rating, based on the 7-day average streamflow volumes recorded there. In Region 5, the rating for most of the watershed remains below normal, with Evangeline and Acadia Parishes being the exception, these two are still unrated.

Drinking Water Advisories
Slidell issued a BWA impacting nearly 10,000 customers on the Cross Gates Water System after contractors installing cable struck potable water last week Thursday. Breaking buried water lines with construction equipment is a vector for microbiologic contamination. The BWA is required until the line can be sanitized and water tests safe. br>
Check the yellow tags on the map for details.

Harmful Algal Bloom HABs from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) satellite monitoring program
The latest image supplied by NCCOS was captured March 14 at a wind speed 6 mph. This image is mostly cloud obscured with some water showing HABs to report.

Black Bay HAB sticks out through a break in the coastal cloud mass, showing widespread HAB, concentration dropped down to 100 to 200 thousand cells per 100 ml.
