Widespread thunderstorms for northwest

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and early evening as tropical moisture increases across the local area.

More widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected areawide through Wednesday. The greatest coverage of showers and thunderstorms will generally be from the early afternoon through the evening each day. Locally gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall will be possible in the stronger storms, but organized severe weather is not anticipated.

Impacting Caddo-Bossier-Webster-Claiborne-Lincoln-De Soto-Red River-Bienville-Jackson-Ouachita-Sabine-Natchitoches-Winn-Grant-Caldwell-La Salle Parishes.

Current Streamflows from the USGS network of gauges in Louisiana
With showers in the northwest, streamflows remain much above normal to high Monday. Much below normal flows are still recorded in Regions 3 and 7 contributing to the same action on the drought map as reported here yesterday, Region 3 Tensas River channel occupies the extreme drought category another day while Tangipahoa Parish languishes in severe drought.

WT USA Flood Tracker provisional data from the network of USGS streamflow monitors

Twenty-three streamflow gauges record flows above flood stage in the US Monday, down from thirty yesterday. WT USA follows the water levels and volume on three of these reference flood events, all occurring in the state of Louisiana.

Louisiana: West state border Sabine River flooding near Bon Wier ended yesterday afternoon. Upstream near Logansport the flow is up overnight, currently recorded a foot and four inches over minor flood stage at increased flow volume, from 23000 to now flowing over 26000 cubic feet per second. Near Ruliff the Sabine River a foot and nine inches above the channel flowing 33 thousand cubic feet per second. Region 1 Bayou Bodcau Lake continues to recede, down five inches overnight, currently recorded three feet and an inch above the basin near Shreveport. As many drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WT tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's watersheds.
