National Weather Service: Coastal Hazard - Rip Current Outlook, Surf Zone Forecast

The NWS provides a wealth of information on more than just the weather forecast. Coastal Surf Zone Forecast provides lifesaving information on beach hazards. This forecast typically describes the sky condition, precipitation, visibility, air temperature, wind speed and direction, wave height, surf temperature, tide information, rip currents, lightning, severe thunderstorms, and the ultraviolet index. The nearest Surf Zone forecast for LA is out of Mobile, AL, here.

The Rip Current Outlook is a forecast of expected rip current conditions. The colored flags posted on surf beaches are the estimation of and expectation of local beach patrol, lifeguards, or local law enforcement officials. These colored flags refer to one of any number of surf zone hazards. The colored flags reflect actual, current surf zone hazards. The Rip Current Outlook portion of the Surf Zone Forecast provides standardized terminology for describing this hazard.

Safe Drinking Water Act Drinking Water advisories, EPA Serious Violator List
Boil water advisories are issued by drinking water facilities and/or State authorities for a number of reasons, including power outage, water line leaks, pump failure, water main breaks, repairs, replacing hydrants and any number of circumstances that lead to a drop in pressure. New Orleans recently experienced a loss of water service and BWA caused by a mylar balloon entangling in power lines, knocking out power to a water treatment plant. In this and any number of other unforeseen circumstances, the water facility is prepared to issue precautionary boil water or do not consume orders. Rapid notice to the water customers is key, WTLA is set to provide alerts direct to a mobile device when your water facility has issued a boil advisory.

If you know of a boil water advisory, give WTLA.us a call at 877-52-WATER (877-529-2837), or email us at info@wtla.us

US EPA provides the national oversight of Safe Drinking Water, supporting drinking water facilities and enforcing the drinking water standards. For more information on Louisiana drinking water providers, see the latest EPA compliance stats for Louisiana drinking water facilities here here.
