Spills from a vessel into navigable waterways are reported to the Coast Guard National Response Center. Anyone witnessing an oil spill, chemical release or maritime security incident should call the NRC hotline at 1-800-424-8802.

Georgia Environmental Protection Division runs Georgia's 24 hour Emergency Operations Center receiving calls and dispatching response teams as necessary for the incident. Spills from a vessel into navigable waterways are reported to the Coast Guard National Response Center.

From a recent Hazardous Spill File here at WTGA.us, truckloads of chicken sludge reported dumped into fields in the Flint River watershed, these incident reports are reminiscent of public complaints of a similar nature around White and Washington Counties where trucks were seen dumping a liquid on fields contributing to odor complaints and presence of flies. A fish kill investigated by GA Natural Resources found the liquid soil amendment derived of liquid wastewater from a raw pet food plant had been stored in an old dairy lagoon, leaked into a creek. Georgia Department of Agriculture provided the product code and description for the registered soil amendment in this case. A number of approved soil amendment products are derived from industrial wastewater including abbatoir cleanings, pet food plant cleanings and dairy facilities cleanings.
