WT HAB Tracker from the satellite monitoring program of National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS)
The latest image of Lake Pontchartrain and the southeast water bodies is dated Oct 3, mostly cloud obscured. THe prior image of Oct 2 was clear, snapped at surface wind speed 12.4 mph. The widespread HAB spotted in the middle of Lake Pontchartrain Sep 30 is no longer visible, this could be due to the wind speed above 4mph submerging the bloom out of view. Lac des Allemands and Bayou Fortier appear clear today, Lakes Cataouache and Salvador likewise. Lakes Verret and Palourde widespread HABs are lower in concentration than our last view, down around the 600 to 700 thousand cells per ml range. A previous image Sep 29 showed Lake Verret widespread HAB in the south of the water body at high concentration 800 thousand to 1 million cells per ml. Lake Palourde widespread HABs had at that time settled into the north half of the water body matching concentration color scale for 800 thousand cells per ml. Black Bay widespread HAB is visible in the new image Oct 3, a bit lower concentration, 700 thousand cells per ml. See the latest satellite image of southeast LA water bodies, here.
