Severe to extreme drought in the northeast watershed Region 3

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS streamflow gauges in Louisiana

Sunny and clear with a high of 87 Saturday, more patchy fog rolling in again tonight for New Orleans with no hazardous weather expected from the NWS or the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Hurricane Kristy got up to 160 mph Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale in the Pacific, this storm has weakened to Category 2 and is not threatening the continent.

A mix of normal and below normal streamflows persists all over Louisiana, record low ratings apply in watershed Regions 3 and 4. Bayou Macon - Tensas River valley continues in extreme drought with adjacent surface area east to the Mississippi escalated to severe drought. West of the Bayou Macon - Tensas River strip, moderate drought continues to grip east Union, west Morehouse, Ouachita, Winn, Grant and LaSalle Parishes. Sabine River channel remains below normal from north to south passing through Region 4 watershed including south-central Sabine, west Vernon, Beauregard and Calcasieu Parishes. Region 5 is rated below normal through Acadia and Evangeline Parishes, extending to St Marys Parish on the coast and Tangipahoa Parish in Region 7.

As of this report, there are no high flows or active floods, a first percentile extreme low is again registering in Bayou Toro near Toro in Region 4 watershed.

The latest image of Louisiana southeast water bodies is clear, captured Oct 25 at 7.6 mph. Lake Boeuf is the hot spot again, the lakewide HAB runs north of 2 million cells per ml, likely accompanied by a serious cyanotoxin load. Lakes Verret and Palourde lakewide bluegreen blooms 800 to 900 thousand cells per ml, Lac des Allemands and Bayou Fortier lakewide HABs 800 thousand cells per ml. Black Bay remains full of bluegreen at 700 to 800 thousand cells per ml. Lakes Pontchartrain and Maurepas appear clear of HAB. See the latest satellite image of southeast LA water bodies, here.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
St. Martin Parish: St. Martinville has had a full system-wide shut down for emergency repairs Thursday. Once the service is restored, all customers are under BWA until further notice. City of St Martinville Water System serves 7575 people from a groundwater source. More to follow.

Richland Parish: Delhi issued a BWA Thursday following repairs made in part of the distribution system. This boil order applies to customers south of Interstate 20 and east of Mid Valley Road until further notice. Delhi Water Supply serves 4071 customers from a groundwater source in Region 3 watershed.
