Severe to extreme drought expanding in Region 3, relief coming with rain Sunday
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river monitors in Louisiana
Light rain, 51 degrees in New Orleans, showers in the forecast tonight and tomorrow for the very dry northwest, the forecast from NWS Shreveport calling for 60% chance of showers, likely after midnight. Showers Sunday for the northwest, thunderstorms are also possible after 3pm, new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Just two streamflow gauges are recording flow above flood stage in all the continental USA this hour; one of these floodings is on the Calcasieu River, continuing to overflowing the channel near Glenmora in watershed Region 4. Drought is getting deeper in the northwest, the extreme drought along the Bayou Macon-Tensas River channel is joined by the area to the east, we now have East Carrol, Madison and Tensas Parishes overtaken with severe to extreme drought. All remaining area of Region 3 watershed is rated below normal. Part of Region 1 watershed has jumped up from below normal to moderate drought impacting Webster Parish. A small area of Washington Parish in Region 7 has gone below normal, the Bogue Chitto River near Franklinton has been running below seasonal normal long enough to earn a below normal rating on the drought map. All other area is drought-free.
Safe Drinking Water Advisories
St Martin Parish: Breaux Bridge - Cecilia Water Corporation issued a boil advisory Wed this week for residents connecting from the intersection of Highway 678 near 2747 Grand Point Highway to I-10. Cecilia Water Corporation provides potable water to 12,249 customers in St. Martin Parish from a groundwater source in watershed Region 5.
Orleans Parish: New Orleans had some customers in the East water distribution system on a BWA this week following a water main break on Wednesday. Customers connecting on Morrison Road from Poitevent Ave. to Paris Road, Paris Road from Morrison Rd. to Hayne Boulevard, Hayne Boulevard from Paris Road to 9600 Hayne Blvd. and Poitevent Avenue from Irby Street to Morrison Road were impacted by this order.
