Rain continues, rivers and bayous filling up statewide
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river monitors in Louisiana
Raining, 69 degrees in New Orleans, a thunderstorm possible before 4pm this afternoon, followed by the next 24 hours with showers, possibility of more thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. New rainfall amounts over the next day and a half could measure up to an inch, with more rain coming down in localized areas with thunderstorms. Sunny with a high 75, no rain in sight for the north, according to NWS Shreveport.
Five sites in west central Louisiana are running above the 90th percentile Monday. Calcasieu River continues to flood near Glenmora in watershed Region 4 with tributary Ouiska Chitto running above 90th percentile. Big Creek is running much above seasonal normal near Rochelle in watershed Region 2. Two tributaries in Region 5 are recorded above the 90th percentile. Region 7 runs above the 75th percentile, above seasonal normal. Region 1 and 3 in the west are seeing higher water levels in more than half of their monitored sites. These higher than normal streamflows may shift the drought ratings in the northwest, if the higher water levels continue another day or two.
Severe to extreme drought remains in REgion 3 watershed, the area running along Bayou Macon- Tensas River over to the Mississippi River has been rated with the deepest drought on the scale for weeks. Adjacent area west of Tensas River is rated below normal with a band of moderate drought running through Region 3 from east Union Parish through central Ouachita and central Caldwell Parishes along the Ouachita River channel. Region 1 watershed has moderate drought running through Webster Parish, along the Bayou Dorcheat channel. All other watersheds are unrated for drought Monday.
Safe Drinking Water Advisories
St Martin Parish: Breaux Bridge - Cecilia Water Corporation issued a boil advisory last week for residents connecting from the intersection of Highway 678 near 2747 Grand Point Highway to I-10. Cecilia Water Corporation provides potable water to 12,249 customers in St. Martin Parish from a groundwater source in watershed Region 5.
Orleans Parish: New Orleans had some customers in the East water distribution system were under BWA last week following a water main break on Wednesday. Customers connecting on Morrison Road from Poitevent Ave. to Paris Road, Paris Road from Morrison Rd. to Hayne Boulevard, Hayne Boulevard from Paris Road to 9600 Hayne Blvd. and Poitevent Avenue from Irby Street to Morrison Road were impacted by this order.
