Calcasieu River flooding in Region 4

Streamflow Situation from the network of monitoring stations of the US Geological Survey
NWS reports fair conditions statewide Monday, New Orleans partly cloudy, already at the daytime high of 78F ahead of the clouds breaking up for a partly sunny day. Shreveport local weather office reports partly cloudy, 70F heading for a daytime high 79F. There is no rain in the immediate forecast.

Streamflows run normal in the northwest Regions 1 to 3 shifting to above normal water levels in the southwest, Regions 4 and 5. Calcasieu River is running a foot and nine inches over flood stage near Glenmora. Over the weekend we reported flooding and a record high flow near Kinder, it now appears that there may have been a data spike, the water level did rise into action stage but it now appears there was no breach of the channel, and no high water record, these were isolated odd data points. Region 7 watershed is recording flows below the tenth percentile Monday. See the flood location and water level details on the front page map, indicated with a black tag.

Region 7 continues in drought mode. The highest rating is moderate drought rating along the Tangipahoa River channel, taking in most of Tangipahoa Parish. Below normal ratings apply in St Tammany Parish to the east; West Feliciana, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rough and Iberville Parishes to the west in Region 7 remain below normal. Region 3 has recovered from serious drought in the north Union, Claiborne and Lincoln Parishes, still rated below normal.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Evangeline Parish: Water customers in the Town of Basile came under a BWA following a water main break Thursday. Customers connecting in the Hebert Subdivision and surrounding areas were under a BWA into the weekend.

Town of Basile Water System distributes potable water to 2400 Evangeline and Acadia County residents from a groundwater well source purchased from another licensed drinking water facility. According to US EPA compliance records, the last sanitary survey was completed in June 2023. Signficant deficiencies were noted in finished water storage, and non-compliance is noted in two of the last twelve quarters, specifically the treatment technique, Groundwater Rule.

US EPA has released the latest quarterly reporting audit of US drinking water facilities compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. Of 1263 licensed drinking water facilities in Louisiana, the number with a perfect operational record has dropped slightly, from 65.4% to 62.6% as of the latest audit. The Louisiana Serious Violator List has gone from 110 to 124 facilities, as of the latest verified information available. WTLA.us congratulates 17 facilities considered Enforcement Priorities in the last quarter that have amended significant violations and been cleared from this list of drinking water notoriety.
