Reliable information on drinking water supplies
Is your drinking water safe? The Safe Drinking Water Act protects public health through the administration and delivery of quality drinking water supplies across the USA. The US EPA establishes standards for drinking water, monitors and enforces treatment techniques for surface water and groundwater, sets maximum limits for around 100 contaminants ensuring public disclosure of deviations and discrepancies.
WaterToday opens the record books of the federal drinking water regulator to bring awareness to the local raw water supply and the compliance record of licensed water treatment facilities. The Louisiana Department of Health administers oversight to 1,263 private and municipal water utilities in Louisiana. See the front page map for drinking water advisories, as they arise.
Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Rapides Parish: City of Alexandria Water System issued a Boil Water advisory for water customers that experienced a loss of pressure in a main water line last week, Friday Feb 14. City of Alexandria provides drinking water to 66,798 residents from a groundwater well source in the upper drainage area of watershed Region 5. The facility has a perfect compliance record with the SDWA, according to the EPA, at least as far as the end of Sep, 2024.
Public water systems provide water for human consumption to at least 15 service connections or 25 average people per day for at least 60 days per year. This page displays the basic information for the selected public water system, including information about its sources of water, population served, annual operating period, service connections, etc.
