Calcasieu Parish - Town of Iowa remains under a system-wide boil water advisory following a water main break Wedneday. The BWA is in effect until further notice.
East Richland Parish issued a boil water advisory for customers south of I-20 east of Mid Valley Road after the main waterline went out Wednesday. More to follow.
Flood and streamflow update provisional data from USGS real-time streamflow monitoring stations throughout Louisiana
In Region 1, Bayou Bodcau has come down overnight, sitting four and a half feet above the basin near Shreveport, still receding as nearby surface area takes on an extreme drought rating.
Region 4 Sabine River is up to five inches over flood stage near Ruliff. USGS Water Science Centre for Texas and Oklahoma maintain this station at the Texas-Louisiana border. WTLA has requested verification of the provisional flow data to confirm both the flood status and the drought status. More to follow.

Drought Map from USGS 7-day average streamflows compared to historic averages
Extreme drought has expanded overnight in Louisiana. Joining Region 3 Tensas-Bayou Macon channel is Region 1 Caddo Parish and Region 7 Tangipahoa Parish, today up to the highest level of drought rating on the USGS scale. At moderate drought, Saline Bayou channel running through central Claiborne and east Natitoches Parishes, along with the Region 7 watershed west side.
Very little is left of Louisiana surface area not rated below normal or some other level of drought Friday. The entire surface area of south central to south west LA, all of watershed regions 4 and 5 is now colored with the below seasonal normal 7-day streamflow rank, a very early start to what looks to be another dry year.
Region 1 Bossier, DeSoto and Sabine escape the drought rating Friday, as does west Claiborne, Red River and most of Natchitoches Parishes. Adjacent area east Grant and central LaSalle are still clear of a drought rating.
Region 4 and 5 are entirely taken in the below normal rating. Region 6 Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and Iberville remain in moderate drought right up against the moderate drought rated area of west Region 7. Tangipahoa River hit extreme, Washington and St.Tammany Parishes below normal excluding the east edge along Pearl River channel, still unrated area.
HAB Update from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science
The latest sat photo from NCCOS was taken yesterday at a high surface wind speed 18.7 mph. This image is completely cloud obscured. Referring to a prior image Feb 26, the most recent clear image of LA water bodies, the interpretation of HAB visualized is as follows:
Lake Pontchartain, Lake Maurepas, Lake Verret, Lake Palourde, Lac des Allemands and Bayou Fortier, Lake Cataouache, Lake Salvador, Lake Lery, Rigoletts and the Pen all appear clear of HAB activity.
Inland water bodies of Black Bay show widespread HABs 700 thousand cells per 100 ml.
Note WaterToday reports day-to-day changes recorded by USGS streamflow monitors on rivers and tributaries located in Louisiana, along with monitors upstream in the Mississippi River basin: Ohio, Georgia and southwest New York state. USGS creates a drought map from 7-day average streamflow readings, by comparing the average with the historic weekly normal flow value for each location. The drought ratings are below normal, moderate hydrologic drought, severe drought and extreme drought.
USGS Provisional Data Statement
Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
Provisional data may be inaccurate due to instrument malfunctions or physical changes at the measurement site. Subsequent review based on field inspections and measurements may result in significant revisions to the data.
Data users are cautioned to consider carefully the provisional nature of the information before using it for decisions that concern personal or public safety or the conduct of business that involves substantial monetary or operational consequences. Information concerning the accuracy and appropriate uses of these data or concerning other hydrologic data may be obtained from the USGS.
