Streamflow Situation provisional data from USGS current streamflow monitors
Streamflows in the northwest Regions 1 to 3 run at seasonal normal levels midweek, with two active floodings going on in Region 1. Southeast state streamflows run normal to above normal with two sites in active flood stage in Region 7.
None of the monitored sites indicate above 99th percentile flows or extreme low flows in the network Wednesday.
Bayou Bodcau continues to flood in Region 1, running less than a foot over near Shreveport. Bayou Dorcheat remains more than a foot and a half over flood stage where the flow volume and depth are monitored near Springhill.
In Region 7, Pearl River continues to overflow near Bogalusa and downstream at Pearl River in Region 7.
Check black tags for flood details updated throughout the day.
Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow against seasonal average
Region 3 north-central Morehouse Parish remains the lone drought spot in northwest LA midweek. Region 4 remains below normal in all but the west side land adjacent to the Sabine River, Texas border. Below normal rating has spread east into Region 5 in all but Acadia and Evangeline Parishes.
Harmful Algal Bloom HABs from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) satellite monitoring program
A clear picture of the southeast Louisiana water bodies comes to us from NCCOS today, image captured March 12 at a surface wind speed 4.7 mph.
Lake Pontchartrain appears HAB-free in open water and shorelines today. Lakes Verret and Palourde are cloud obscured, no interpretation available. Lac des Allemands appears with a localized HAB down on the southwest shoreline matching the color scale for a moderate concentration bloom. Black Bay continues to host a widespread and high concentration HAB, in the order of 600 to 700 thousand cells per 100 ml.
USGS Provisional Data Statement
Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
Provisional data may be inaccurate due to instrument malfunctions or physical changes at the measurement site. Subsequent review based on field inspections and measurements may result in significant revisions to the data.
Data users are cautioned to consider carefully the provisional nature of the information before using it for decisions that concern personal or public safety or the conduct of business that involves substantial monetary or operational consequences. Information concerning the accuracy and appropriate uses of these data or concerning other hydrologic data may be obtained from the USGS.
