Flood Watch provisional data from USGS streamflow monitors
Twenty-four stream gauges record flood stage in continental USA today, down from twenty-seven yesterday.
Sabine River has overflowed again near Ruliff, Texas. As of around 915 pm last night, the USGS streamflow gauge began detecting the breach of flood stage on Sabine River at the southwest Louisiana border. Sabine is the fourth river in flood action Wednesday, joining Bayou Dorcheat, Bayou Bodcau and Pearl River for an extended season of hydrating the landscape.
This latest round of spring flooding sparked up March 15 when heavy rains hit southern Arkansas, Texas and north central Louisiana, swelling the creeks and streams with runoff. As of this report, Bayou Dorcheat is still spreading out from its course, running three feet over the channel near Springhill at a total volume 3740 cubic feet per second. Water level here has been on the decline since peak flow was reached in the early morning March 17, more than seven feet over the channel. Bulk Bayou Dorcheat flood water has pushed downstream to flooding near Minden, still running more than five feet above flood stage at this report. To the west in watershed Region 1, Bayou Bodcau flows more than five feet above the channel and rising near Shreveport, hydrating the Region 1 landscape ahead of the hot season to come.
In watershed Region 7, the east state line Pearl River is roaming out of the channel near Bogalusa, not quite three feet over at total volume 38000 cubic feet per second. Downstream at Pearl River station, provisional data from USGS shows the water level a shade less than three feet above flood stage and levelling out. As the tide causes the lower Pearl to expand and contract, these heavings in flood stage send water out dampen the landscape. We continue to monitor the water levels, see the black tags on the map for updates.
WT tracks flooding and drinking water quality in four states. As of this report, no flooding is reported in the networks in New York or Ohio.
Heavy rains through north and central Georgia beginning March 6 set creeks and rivers overflowing. As of this report, five major veins are still flooding in the south, as recorded on nine USGS streamflow monitors. Ocmulgee River has retracted back into its channel overnight. Ohoopee River is nearing the end of flooding midmorning Wednesday, Ogeechee and Satilla are currently three to four inches over flood stage. Altamaha and Savannah remain well above flood stage.

Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow against seasonal average
Region 5 has been excused from the drought map Wednesday, no part of Region 5 left behind. Region 4 is showing up mostly below normal midweek with a rating of moderate hydrologic drought tracing the Calcasieu River channel through northeast Vernon, southwest Rapides, central and southwest Allen, northeast Calcasieu and northwest Jefferson Parishes. The Region 4 contribution is all we have to report for drought in Louisiana Wednesday.
Harmful Algal Bloom HABs from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) satellite monitoring program
The latest image supplied by NCCOS was captured March 19 at a wind speed 14 mph. This image is crystal clear, all water bodies can be observed at shorelines and open water. The only HAB activity showing in this image is widespread through Black Bay, at the high concentration 700 thousand cells per 100 ml.
In the image from March 18, we observed HABs in Lac des Allemands, Bayou Fortier and Lake Salvador, 100-200 thousand cells per 100 ml.
