Severe drought on the Tensas River channel, the rest of Louisiana drought-free
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS streamflow gauges in Louisiana
Normal to much above seasonal normal treamflows hydrate the Louisiana landscape Tuesday, just two stations in the network speak of water level below the 25th percentile. The increase in water levels measured through the bayous and rivers indicates drought-free watersheds for all but one narrow run, that being the Tensas River channel, the immediate area bordering the river rated severe drought another day. An area of Union Parish in the north was rated below normal yesterday, this is no longer the case today. No extreme high flows or flooding occurring in the reference network, no low flows.
WT HAB Tracker from the satellite monitoring program of National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS)
The latest image of Lake Pontchartrain and the southeast water bodies is dated Sep 16, taken at a calm wind speed 1.8 mph. This image is partially cloud obscured with a view to the open water of several lakes we have been tracking daily in this report. Lakes Maurepas and Pontchartrain remain HAB free, the shorelines of Pontchartrain are cloud obscured, Lake Maurepas is largely cloud obscured with no HAB visible between clouds. Lakes Verret and Palourde show widespread HAB above 1 million cells per ml, a particularly dense HAB in the southwest of Lake Palourde is the highest concentration, 1.5 million cells per ml. Bayou Fortier is completely obscured in this image, Lac des Allemands widespread HAB runs up to 2 million cells per ml in the south outlet end into Bayou des Allemands. Lake Salvador sports a massive new HAB in the west half 700 thousand up to 1 million cells per ml concentration. See the latest satellite image of southeast LA water bodies, here.
