Lake Boeuf bluegreen algae explosion, Slidell BWA

The latest image of Lake Pontchartrain and the southeast water bodies was captured yesterday, Oct 22, a clear image at 6 mph. Lake Boeuf has a lakewide HAB of extreme high concentration, up in the last 24 hours from 2 million to 3 million cells per ml. Lake Pontchartrain appears to have a small open water bloom at midlake, low concentration less than 100 thousand cells per ml. Lake Maurepas appears clear of HAB. Lac des Allemands and Bayou Fortier are mostly cloud obscured, a lakewide HAB visible between cloud breaks at high concentration 600 to 700 thousand cells per ml. Lakes Verret and Palourde HABs are lakewide and increasing in concentration, up to 900 thousand cells per ml in this image. See the latest satellite image of southeast LA water bodies, here.

St. Tammany Parish: Slidell issued a BWA following a water main break Monday. The boil order impacts portions of Olde Town including 700-701 Cleveland Ave, 2544-2628 Fourth St, 2538 Fifth Street and 2643 Third Street until further notice from City officials. More to follow.
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS streamflow gauges in Louisiana
Sunny and clear with a high of 86 today for New Orleans, no hazardous weather in sight. Tropical Storm Oscar has dissipated in the north Caribbean overnight, no new storm development is expected in the next 48 hours for the Atlantic. Hurricane Kristy is on the move westward in the Pacific theater, no coastal watches or warnings are in effect for the west coast today. Swells generated by Kristy are expected to reach portions of the west coast of the Baja California peninsula late this week with life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, more to follow as new announcements are made.
Louisiana streamflows run a mix of seasonal normal and below normal, the number of stations currently reporting water levels in the bottom 10 percent of historic levels is increasing through central and southwest Louisiana impacting watershed Regions 2, 3, 4 and 5. Region 7 streamflows run mostly below normal, in the 11 to 24th percentile range. On the drought map midweek, the Bayou Macon - Tensas River valley runs at extreme drought, all area to the east is rated moderate drought, including East Carroll, Madison, Tensas and Concordia Parishes. In the west part of Region 3 watershed, moderate drought grips East Union, Ouachita, Winn, Grant and LaSalle Parishes. Sabine River channel is rated below normal in Region 4 including south-central Sabine, west Vernon, Beauregard and Calcasieu Parishes. Region 5 is below normal through Acadia and Evangeline Parishes, and the below normal rating extends east as far as St Marys Parish on the coast and Tangipahoa Parish in Region 7.
As of this report, there are no high flows or active floods, a first percentile extreme low is registering in Bayou Toro near Toro in Region 4 watershed.
