Breaux Bridge construction incident forces a BWA for the city

St Martin Parish: Breaux Bridge is under a system-wide boil water advisory following a construction accident on Washington Street that cut a main line yesterday. City of Breaux Bridge Water System serves a population of 8754 from a groundwater source in watershed Region 5. According to the EPA Enforcement and Compliance History, the last sanitary survey was conducted in July 2022, with significant deficiencies noted in Data Verification, Finished Water Storage, Pumps, Source and Treatment. An unaddressed non-compliance issue in 12 of the last 12 quarters, related to the treatment technique for groundwater.
Livingston Parish: Denham Springs issued a BWA Tuesday impacting the south side of Florida Boulevard from Gator Millworks to the intersection of Burgess Avenue and Florida Boulevard, including all sides of the streets in between. City of Denham Springs Water System serves a population of 25,725 residents from a groundwater source in watershed Region 7. From the EPA, nine issues of non-compliance with Safe Drinking Water Act over the last 12 quarters, no significant violations. The last sanitary survey was conducted Jan 2024, with minor deficiencies noted in Finished Water and Source.
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS streamflow gauges in Louisiana
Overcast and 79 degrees with a high of 84 expected today for New Orleans, thunderstorms likely to start this afternoon with showers in the evening. National Hurricane Center continues to monitor the disturbance in the southwest Caribbean, the chance of development over the next 7 days upgraded from 40% to 50%. If this does develop further, we are looking at the next named system of the season, Patty. See the Tropical Weather Statement below.
Current streamflows run a mix of normal and below normal statewide with an increasing number of monitors reporting below 10th percentile, 11 at this report. In the northwest, Region 1 remains below normal through Bossier Parish, the rated area extends all the way down the west side through Region 4 watershed to northwest Cameron Parish. Region 3 persists with extreme drought along the Bayou Macon - Tensas River valley. Severe drought continues to apply eastward to Mississippi River. To the west of the extreme drought area in Region 3, West Carroll and east Morehouse, Richland and Franklin Parishes remain unrated. Moderate drought picks up at west Morehouse and Union Parish, moderate drought continues down through Ouachita, Jackson, Winn, La Salle and north and the south of Catahoula Parish, the central area of Catahoula is unrated. Region 3 Concordia Parish is rated moderate drought today. Regions 5 and 7 are still rated below normal through Acadia and Evangeline Parishes, extending to St Marys Parish on the coast. Tangipahoa Parish has gone to moderate drought overight, in the far east side of the state in Region 7, the east side of Washington and St Tammany Parish remain below normal, that's the Pearl River channel.
As of this report, there are no high flows or active floods, no first percentile extreme low flows.

1. Southwestern Caribbean Sea:
A broad area of low pressure is likely to develop over the southwestern Caribbean Sea during the next couple of days. Gradual
development is possible thereafter, and a tropical depression could form over the weekend or early next week while the system drifts
generally northward or northwestward over the central or western Caribbean Sea.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.

The latest image of Louisiana southeast water bodies is dated Oct 30, this image is mostly clear, captured at a surface wind speed of 2.9 mph. New HAB activity appears in Lake Salvador dispersed HAB widespread throughout the entire water body at low concentration 100 thousand cells per ml. There are new HABs widespread in Bayou Rigoletts and the Pen at 300 thousand cells per ml. This image again shows lakewide HABs in Lake Verret, Lake Palourde, Avoca Island cutoff, Lac des Allemands, Bayou Fortier, Lake Boeuf and Black Bay, all of these appear at the concentration 600 to 700 thousand cells per ml.
