Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in Louisiana
New Orleans is looking at a 30% chance of showers this afternoon between 2 and 4, high 78. Shreveport local forecast office reports 50% chance of showers this afternoon, a 40% chance of showers with thunderstorms possible tonight. Calcasieu River is coming down steadily now near Glenmora, looks to be getting back in the channel this afternoon after five straight weeks flooding in Region 4 watershed.
Normal to below normal streamflows are recorded state-wide Monday, the lowest flows appearing in the northwest, Region 1 and Region 3 upper watersheds. The drought map has expanded in the northwest, a larger area of Region 3 upper basin taken over with moderate drought. The drought is impacting most of Claiborne, all of Union, Lincoln and Ouachita Parishes. When the watersheds run below normal for an extended period of time, there is a lowering of the groundwater aquifers and surface water reservoirs such that supply and water quality issues strain the drinking water facilities. Be prepared for more drinking water issues, have alternate water supply stored if possible.
Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Bossier Parish: A BWA was issued Dec 12 for customers of the River Point System after a routine test turned up E. coli bacteria, the sample taken Dec 10. KTAL Shreveport has posted the public notice, stating that a check valve has been replaced and the chlorine level is being adjusted. Impacted customers will be notified when the e.coli situation has been resolved. River Point Water System serves 45 people from a groundwater source in the Carrizo Aquifer.
