New Orleans water main break and BWA
Safe Drinking Water Advisories
New Orleans: A precautionary BWA has been issued for customers along Lake Pontchartrain in Little Woods due to a water main break. Connections included in the BWA: Morrison Rd, from Poitevent Ave to Paris Rd, Paris, from Morrison to Hayne Blvd, Hayne, from Paris to 9600 Hayne, Poitevent, from Irby Street to Morrison.
New Orleans: A precautionary BWA has been issued following a loss of water pressure in the distribution lines, impacting:
- Florida Avenue from Inner Harbor Navigation Canal to the Parish line
- Parish line from Florida Avenue to the Mississippi River
- The Mississippi River from the Parish line to the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal
- Inner Harbor Navigation Canal from the Mississippi River to Florida Avenue
Water pressure has been restored, the impacted areas are to boil water intended for consumption and hygiene for at least one minute. Water testing will indicate when the BWA can be removed.

WT HAB Tracker from the satellite surveillance program of the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS)
The latest satellite image from NCCOS was captured Dec 18 at a surface wind speed .7 mph, showing lakewide HAB in Bayou Fortier and widespread HAB in the north half of the west bay of Lac des Allemands, extending down to the southeast at 700 to 800 thousand cells per ml. Widespread bluegreen algae is again observed in Black Bay, the concentration is lower in this image, down from 700 thousand to 300 thousand cells per ml.
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in Louisiana
Overcast, 55 degrees in New Orleans, turning to a mostly sunny 64 degree day in New Orleans. Clear and sunny in the northwest, NWS Shreveport local forecast office calling in fair conditions, 50 degrees going to 58 with full sun, no rain in the outlook.
Streamflows are variable, from a single station reporting much above seasonal normal to four stations reporting much below normal, below the 10th percentile. Sabine River continues below normal to much below normal down through Region 4 watershed in the west, Region 3 is sending one reference above 90th percentile, Richland Parish had been on the drought map for months, now posting a 90th percentile high flow on Bayou LaFourche near Crew Lake. Moderate drought remains over Claiborne, Union and Lincoln Parishes in Region 3 however the adjacent area previously rated below normal is now unrated. Region 1 watershed Bossier and Webster Parishes remain below normal, no other surface area of LA is rated on the drought map Thursday.
