Christmas Day Report

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in Louisiana
New Orleans reports a 20% chance of showers, low around 60. Boxing Day, Thursday goes on to a 20% chance of showers, mostly cloudy with a high near 76. Showers and thunderstorms are possible tomorrow evening and overnight, up to quarter of an inch with higher amounts in thunderstorms. Shreveport also has 20% chance of rain this evening, up to 90% chance of showers before noon Boxing Day. Showers are likely, up to an inch of rain, thunderstorms possible between noon and 3pm, showers after 3pm Thursday and a high of 68.

Streamflows remain varied through the state Christmas Day, low to much above normal readings across the watersheds. Moderate drought has taken over Sabine River channel in Region 4, as the moderate drought in Region 3 Claiborne, Union and Lincoln Parishes. Below normal ratings are now applied to Region 3 East Carroll, Madison and Tensas Parishes. Below normal remains through Region 4 covering all but the Calcasieu River channel. Region 5 Evangeline and Acadia Parishes continue below normal. Central Washington Parish continues in moderate drought in Region 7, Tangipahoa Parish is still rated below normal. Region 1 watershed Bossier Parish remmains below normal.

The latest satellite image from NCCOS was captured Dec 24 at a surface wind speed 2.2 mph, a clear image of Lake Pontchartrain and southeast water bodies. Widespread HAB in Bayou Fortier, large localized HAB in Lac des Allemands and lakewide HAB in Lake Boeuf match concentration scale at 400 thousand cells per ml.
