EPA's Toxic Release Inventory rolls out a new online resource for students
Today, EPA launched “TRI in the Classroom,” a new online resource designed for Grades 8 - 12. Students will learn to navigate the database of chemical waste reports from federal and industrial facilities in the USA. Teach your class to retrieve details on the toxics released in the manufacture of the essential goods we rely on every day, from clothing to cars to pharmaceutical drugs. Students can apply their new skills to investigate potential health impacts from toxics, comparing local public health and environmental impacts with other communities in the US. Educators will find ready to use classroom materials, including an intro presentation, video and worksheets. Environmental Justice and green chemistry are among the topics covered.
Beyond the classroom, EPA provides resources for community members, researchers, advocacy organizations, businesses, the press, and Tribal, federal, state, and local government officials.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Livingston Parish: Ward 2 Water District has issued another BWA for customers in the Denham Springs area, this one coming on Monday Jan 6 after a water leak was detected. The line has been repaired, the boil advisory applies to customers connecting on both sides of Juban Road from the south side of Cassle Road to I-12, until further notice.
Ward 2 Water District has a clean operational record with the EPA. Enforcement and Compliance History Online shows no violations, no non-compliance matters in the last three years. The facility provides potable water to 73,506 Livingston Parish residents from a groundwater well source in watershed Region 7.

MORNING...
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 possible for Iberville Parish overnight tonight. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation.
Take steps now to protect tender plants and exposed water lines from the cold.

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in Louisiana
Water levels run above seasonal normal in the west with two sites flooding, normal water levels continue in the east.
Calcasieu River began flooding December 28 near Glenmora, this flow peaked on Dec 30, very slowly receding since. Now less than a foot above the channel, this flooding could continue for another week. Sabine River flooding near Ruliff TX started on the 31st of December, the flow a steady six to seven inches over the channel. See black tags on the front page map for details.
It is partly cloudy, 38 degrees in New Orleans, the daytime high expected 48 degrees. The cold weather advisory has been extended to Thursday morning for Iberville Parish. Once again, cover any exposed water lines overnight to prevent damage. Light snow, 34 degrees at Shreveport, a winter storm watch in effect for Thursday, more to follow.
