Streamflow Situation from the network of monitoring stations of the US Geological Survey in Louisiana
Continued low streamflows in Region 3 have produced an area of moderate drought over most of Claiborne, the west half of Union and all of Lincoln Parish. Sabine River continues to overrun its banks through Calcasieu Parish, a bit lower today, half a foot over minor flood stage in Region 4 watershed. Also on the Tickfaw River in Region 7, a low flow rating, 2nd percentile appears today at Liverpool.
See the front page map for water levels updated daily, the black tag indicate the location of active flooding, red-brown tags indicate 1st percentile, extreme low flows.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
St. Landry Parish: A contractor punctured a water line in Opelousas Monday, resulting in a drop in the water pressure supplying Opelousas General Health System South Campus and Clos du Bois subdivision. The impacted connections are under a precautionary boil water order until further notice. City of Opelousas Water System serves a residential population of 19764 from a groundwater source in Region 5 watershed. According to the EPA, City of Opelousas has non-compliance issues in all twelve of the last twelve reporting and monitoring cycles. The last inspection activity was a complaint investigation in Feb last year. The last complete sanitary survey was conducted in June of 2023. At this inspection by LA Dept of Health, significant deficiencies were found in finished water storage, pumps and raw water source.
The new EPA quarterly compliance report is out, including the new Serious Violator list. Louisiana has 124 Serious Violator drinking water facilities out of total 1263 active facilities with SDWA permits as of the last audited quarter, ended Sep 30, 2024. WTLA.us summary report is in progress, more to follow. See the prior report here, how drinking water facility compliance in Louisiana compared with Ohio, New York, Georgia and California in the last quarter, here.
